City of Morris objects to solar farm at Ashton and Gore Road

The solar farm at Huntley High School on Friday, June 30, 2023. Multiple solar farms across McHenry County are being presented to the McHenry County Board creating concerns of watershed, farmland and pollinator issues.

The City of Morris filed an objection through a resolution Monday night, asking the Grundy County Board to not issue a special use permit for a solar farm at Ashton and Gore Roads on the city’s west side.

Morris Mayor Chris Brown said that solar project is in the early stages, and he’s not sure if the group has even purchased the property yet. Its still going through the Grundy County Board, which will eventually have to vote on whether or not to give it a special use permit for construction and operation.

Brown said the city’s objection comes because it eventually intends to annex that section of land if any real estate developers come in wanting to build new homes.

The project still has to go through the planning and zoning board, the committees, and then Grundy County Board before it can get approved.
