Grundy County awarded emergency food and shelter program funds for phase 42

The United Way of Grundy County announced in a news release Monday that Grundy County has been awarded federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter (EFSP) National Program for Phase 42.

Local non-profit organizations that provide direct emergency food and shelter to Grundy County residents can apply for the funding, though application submission is not a guarantee for the funds.

The Grundy County EFSP Board distributes the funds appropriated to expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the county. It is made up of local representatives that determine how the funding is distributed, and it’s responsible for recommending which agencies receive the funds.

Any non-profit, be it faith-based or a local government agency that provides direct emergency food and shelter services, can apply for funds. Local agencies chosen to receive funds must have an accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and shelter services, and if they are a private voluntary organization, have a voluntary board.

Applications are due by noon Jan. 31. For more information, contact Karen Nall at the United Way of Grundy County at 815-942-4430.
