MORRIS – Grundy County resident Aren Hansen was named to the Illinois GOP’s State Central Committee on Wednesday.
Illinois Republican Party chairmen from the 16th Congressional District met Wednesday to appoint a successor for outgoing State Central Committee member John McGlasson, who recently resigned his position with the ILGOP. Wednesday’s caucus was the final meeting in a monthlong process that began when McGlasson submitted his resignation.
Two individuals expressed interest in the appointment: Hansen and Larry Smith of La Salle County. The two candidates were interviewed via Zoom by the Republican chairmen from the various counties that comprise the 16th Congressional District. Hansen overwhelmingly won the appointment after the votes were tallied.
“I’m honored and excited to represent 16th Congressional District Republican voters on the ILGOP’s State Central Committee,” Hansen said. “There’s no shortage of work to be done for Republicans in Illinois, and I look forward to contributing my energy and talents not just in Grundy but now at the state level, as well.”
The Illinois Republican Party is composed of 18 State Central Committee members, one for each of Illinois’ congressional districts. Each member may appoint his or her deputy State Central Committee member. When asked about the deputy position, Hansen said he intended to appoint La Salle County precinct committee member Elizabeth Bishop as his deputy.
