Lewis University - Invest in Your Future: Benefits of the Behavioral Health and Joliet-Leader Programs

Lewis University provides two distinct scholarships for graduate students in behavioral health and social work, promoting both academic and professional growth. These programs are designed to empower students, provide financial support, and help them make meaningful contributions to their community.

The Behavioral Health Workforce Education and Training (BHWET) Program offers scholarships to graduate-level students pursuing mental health-related degrees in the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program or social work. These scholarships provide $10,000 and offer opportunities for field placements in community-based organizations dealing with underserved populations, especially working with children and adolescents. The Joliet-Leader Program is a unique opportunity for graduate social work or school counseling majors at Lewis University. Its goal is to develop leaders who can address complex social issues and promote social justice. Students in this program receive financial assistance, participate in leadership training and community service projects, and are paired with experienced mentors who can guide them through their academic and professional journey. Contact Dr. Lisa Brown, clinical coordinator for psychology, at brownli@lewisu.edu for more information.

These programs offer more than financial aid to students in mental health careers. By providing hands-on experience, networking, mentorship, and leadership training, Lewis University prepares students to positively impact behavioral health. They promote diversity by focusing on underserved populations and equipping students with skills to address their needs.

Lewis University also offers a variety of resources and support for students pursuing careers in behavioral health and social work, including internships, research opportunities, partnerships with community organizations, and dedicated faculty who are experts in the field, providing guidance and mentorship to students.

Students are encouraged to apply for these programs to take advantage of unique opportunities tailored to their academic and career pursuits. Gain experience, develop skills, and reduce education costs for a fulfilling career in behavioral mental health.
