Two Cook County women and two male juveniles have been accused of stealing merchandise from the Oak Brook Sephora store,104 Oakbrook Center, prosecutors said.
Marisol Ocampo, 35, of Chicago, appeared in First Appearance Court this morning charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, two counts of burglary and one count of retail theft, according to a DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office news release.
Ocampo’s codefendant, Deysi Villalobos, 32, of the 1100 block of West Grand Avenue, Melrose Park, also appeared in First Appearance Court charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and three counts each of burglary and of retail theft, according to the release.
Two male juveniles who were with the women, one 17-years-old and one 15-years-old, both appeared at a detention hearing this morning each charged with one count each of burglary, aggravated battery and retail theft, authorities said.
In addition, the seventeen-year-old juvenile is charged with threatening a public official. Both juveniles were released and placed on GPS monitoring, according to the release.
About 5 p.m. Dec. 22, the defendants allegedly entered the Sephora store and selected numerous items of merchandise valued at more than $300 and left the store without paying for the merchandise.
Both Ocampo and Villalobos allegedly directed one of the juveniles to steal merchandise from Sephora. The juveniles allegedly struck a store employee, and one of the juveniles threatened an Oak Brook police officer.
On Dec. 20, Ocampo and Villalobos allegedly entered the same Sephora store and selected numerous items of merchandise valued at more than $300 and left the store without paying for the merchandise, according to the release.
“It is alleged that Ms. Villalobos, Ms. Ocampo and two minor children stole merchandise from a retail store,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in the release. “To further aggravate the matter, it is further alleged that the minors struck an employee of the store in commission of the crime and that one of the juveniles threatened a police officer as he was being arrested.
“I assure DuPage County residents and businesses that as we are in the heart of the holiday shopping season, law enforcement in DuPage County is committed to ensuring the safety of our residents, holiday shoppers and businesses. I also warn anyone who would think of committing a crime in DuPage County that law enforcement is on high alert for this type of behavior, and anyone suspected of such, as alleged in this case, will be arrested, charged and fully prosecuted.”
“While most families were out enjoying some last-minute holiday shopping, this group came here with Grinch-like intentions,” Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis said in the release. They soon found out that we don’t tolerate criminal behavior in Oak Brook and we certainly don’t stand down when threatened by criminals.”
The next court appearance for Ocampo and Villalobos is scheduled for Jan. 21 for arraignment. The next court appearance for the juveniles is scheduled for Jan. 10.
