The Elmhurst History Museum has debuted an original photography exhibit titled “Snapshots: Elmhurst Now & Then,” a digitally enhanced presentation of photographs of iconic Elmhurst buildings, views parks and transportation routes using images from its archives.
These historical images have been paired with contemporary counterparts, allowing guests to observe the evolution of Elmhurst’s history through changing architecture, transportation, green spaces and business developments. In addition to the photographs, the exhibit highlights video footage from the museum’s archives, including the earliest filmed footage of Elmhurst from a “drive around town” in 1929.
To complement the exhibit, the museum has also created a book, also titled “Snapshots: Elmhurst Now & Then,” which contains more than 30 images featured in the exhibition. The book is available for purchase in the museum store for $20.
A lecture from museum executive director Dave Oberg will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 26, offering more background on the exhibit and a Snapshots: Elmhurst Now & Then gallery talk with the exhibit’s curator, Sarah Cox, will be held at noon Feb. 9. Tickets are available for these events at elmhursthistory.org.
