West Suburban region positivity rate drops to 3.5% as 81 new COVID-19 cases reported Sunday, 2 deaths

The DuPage County Health Department on Sunday reported 81 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in the county, with 2 deaths: 1 man in his 70s and 1 female in her 90s.

The county now has seen a total of 71,954 coronavirus cases including 1,195 deaths, according to the health department. The recovery rate among DuPage County cases as of Feb. 23 was 98.2%.

DuPage County has administered 196,518 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 59,774 people, or 6.44% of the population, have been fully vaccinated.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 39 consecutive days under 8%. The region’s positivity rate decreased to 3.5%. Currently, 29% of ICU beds are available.

The region has 77 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 3.7% and DuPage County is at 3.4%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable for eight out of the last 10 days in this region.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,249 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 22 additional deaths Sunday, and a total of 2,705,934 COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.

By town, Wheaton has had 3,859 total cases, Glen Ellyn 2,739, Lombard 3,763, Villa Park 2,255, Hinsdale 1,181, Westmont 1,820, Darien 1,505, Woodridge 2,246, Downers Grove 3,483, Elmhurst 3,699, Warrenville 1,121 and Winfield 930. Addison has had 4,367 confirmed cases, Naperville 6,262, Carol Stream 3,834 and West Chicago 3,917.
