Glenbard West senior Collin Carrigan, who won the Class 3A 165-pound state championship, is the Suburban Life Boys Wrestler of the Year.

Josh Vazquez went through his own private gauntlet in his first year wrestling at Montini, beating his former high school teammate in the decisive match in the dual team sectional. But Montini came just short of repeating that magic, losing the Class 2A final to Washington 30-28.

Collin Carrigan left his championship stamp at Glenbard West on Saturday, as the North Carolina recruit beat Lyons senior Gunnar Garelli in overtime for the Hilltoppers' first state title in 58 years. Meanwhile, Montini and IC Catholic Prep both crowned two state champs.

After a couple of so-so wrestling seasons, Glenbard West senior Tony Shadid refined his body and game to become one of the top wrestlers in the area this season. Now he's set to make his state tournament debut this weekend in Champaign.
