St. Charles East wrestling enjoyed plenty of success in a dual against Wheaton North Thursday. The girls team earned six consecutive falls to win 48-6 in the Saints' first ever home meet, while the boys had nine bonus-point victories to secure a 63-10 win.
Glenbard West senior Collin Carrigan, who won the Class 3A 165-pound state championship, is the Suburban Life Boys Wrestler of the Year.
Josh Vazquez went through his own private gauntlet in his first year wrestling at Montini, beating his former high school teammate in the decisive match in the dual team sectional. But Montini came just short of repeating that magic, losing the Class 2A final to Washington 30-28.
Montini faces Washington in the Class 1A state dual team wrestling championship.

After a couple of so-so wrestling seasons, Glenbard West senior Tony Shadid refined his body and game to become one of the top wrestlers in the area this season. Now he's set to make his state tournament debut this weekend in Champaign.
