Suburban Life girls basketball season preview: Five players to watch in 2021

Here are five players to watch in the Suburban Life coverage area this season:

Lauren Cohen, Glenbard South, sr., G: Illinois State recruit was a key part of Raiders’ teams that made Class 3A state in 2018 and 2019, and stepped up her scoring last season. She’s one of the best defenders in the area for a Glenbard South program that hangs its hat on how well it guards. Cohen, an All-Area pick last year, averaged 13.7 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Stephanie Dasbach, Willowbrook, sr., F: Winona State recruit is a double-double machine, as she averaged 14 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks as a junior. She was an honorable mention All-State pick by the Champaign News-Gazette. Individual highlight of junior season came against Plainfield Central, when Dasbach scored 34 points and grabbed 22 rebounds.

Lauren Huber, Glenbard East, sr., G: Huber, who after last season was on pace to become Glenbard East’s all-time leading scorer, is closing in on 1,000 career points. An honorable mention All-State and All-Area pick, she averaged 17.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.0 steals last season for a Rams’ team that made a huge improvement to 18 wins.

Brenna Loftus, Riverside-Brookfield, sr., G: Washington University commit is already R-B’s all-time leading scorer with over 2,000 career points, 1,000 of them last season alone. She established a single-game program record with 48 points last season against Eisenhower and scored 27 against IC Catholic Prep.

Benet's Kendall Moriarty (15) shoots the ball during Benet's 4A Sectional Championship loss to Bolingbrook in Lisle on Feb. 27.

Kendall Moriarty, Benet, sr., G: With standouts like Kendall Holmes and Brooke Schramek graduated in a loaded 2020 senior class, it’s Moriarty’s time to lead. Athletic 6-foot Nebraska recruit, an honorable mention All-State pick, shot 45% from beyond the 3-point line, 50% from inside the arc and 72% from the free throw line last year. She’s one of two returning starters for the Redwings.
