High school sports roundup for Monday, Feb. 8: St. Francis, Timothy Christian girls basketball get wins

GIRLS BASKETBALL

St. Francis 42, Aurora Central Catholic 22

Maggie Culver scored 10 points and Katie De Craene added nine to lead the Spartans (1-0) past Aurora Central Catholic.

Timothy Christian 56, Bishop McNamara 24

Hannah Schuringa scored 22 points and the Trojans (2-0) held Bishop McNamara to 27% shooting.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Fenwick 70, Mount Carmel 69

Bryce Hopkins found Max Reese for the game-winning layup with 1.3 seconds left in overtime to lift the Friars to a thrilling win in the Catholic League opener in Oak Park.

Hopkins scored 23 points, Denium Juette 15 points, Gabe Madej 12 points and Reese 10 points for Fenwick. Deandre Craig scored 26 for Mount Carmel.
