The cause of a Thursday morning fire at the Four Lakes residential complex near Lisle remains under investigation, authorities said.
There was one minor firefighter injury, but no injuries to residents were reported, according to the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District.
Just after 7 a.m., the district was notified, via a 911 call, of the fire in the 6000 block of Oakwood Drive, a little west of Route 53. The caller was told to activate the fire alarm in the building to alert residents and begin evacuation.
The first unit arrived at 7:07 a.m. The fire was located on the roof. It was deemed under control at 7:57 a.m., the district said in a news release.
Warming locations were made available by neighboring buildings, and a warming bus was requested. The American Red Cross also was helping residents.
“We deeply appreciate the dedication of our Red Cross volunteers who have been on-site since early this morning, providing comfort and care to the residents affected by the Four Lakes fire in Lisle,” Red Cross spokesperson Connie Esparza said in a statement Thursday afternoon. “These incredible volunteers have ensured that those impacted have access to warm meals, a safe place to stay, and the support they need during this challenging time.”
Earlier, the DuPage County sheriff’s office said in a news release that the Red Cross and the management company were assisting several displaced residents with locating temporary shelter, but it’s unclear how many or if they were going to need it.
The Red Cross encourages anyone impacted by Thursday’s or another home fire or disaster who needs assistance to call 1-800-Red Cross.
