Police ID burned body found in park as man reported missing; no foul play suspected

Oswego Police are warning people to avoid the area around the 400 block of Blue Ridge Drive after receiving a report of individuals damaging windows and vehicles and possibly waving a gun.

Wheaton police say they have determined that a burned body found Wednesday at Lincoln Marsh Natural Area is that of a missing person.

The fire was discovered around 7:20 a.m. by a passerby.

On the same day, the family of a 56-year-old man reported him missing to police. They were worried about his mental health, according to police.

Investigators have found no evidence of foul play, police said late Thursday afternoon.

Authorities are not releasing the name of the man, out of respect for the family.

“At this time, there is no information to indicate that this was a crime of violence or that any other individuals were involved in this tragic incident,” Police Chief P.J. Youker said. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased during this trying time. I would like to thank the community for their patience and our policing professionals for their work to provide some answers to a grieving family.”
