Oak Brook man accused of spitting on teenage worker

An Oak Brook man was arrested and accused of walking into an Elmhurst confectionary shop without a mask and spitting in an employee’s face, police said.

Sean P. Connell, 53, of the 19W200 block of Williamsburg Court, surrendered to Elmhurst police Thursday. He faces misdemeanor charges of battery and disorderly conduct.

Connell, who posted bond, which was set at $1,000, with 10% required, is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 20 in DuPage County.

On Nov. 9, a 17-year-old employee told police that a man, later identified as Connell, had entered the store in the 100 block of North York Street without wearing a mask and when asked to put one on, “used vulgar language” and left the store, police said.

A short time later, police said, Connell sent a family member into the business to make a purchase.

Police said Connell then re-entered the store, told the employee that he had spit on the cash his family member had used for his purchase and then spat in the employee’s face.

A manager of the business and the victim contacted Elmhurst police later that night, and a review of surveillance video led to Connell’s identification.
