Brian Waterman has been named the new Lyons Township High School District 204 superintendent, beginning in the 2021-22 school year.
He will replace Timothy Kilrea, who is retiring June 30 after a decade of service to the district.
“I am excited and honored to be appointed the next superintendent at Lyons Township High School, and I look forward to expanding my role to all facets of the district with a detailed focus and collaborative lens to continuously improve the education and support we provide our students and community,” Waterman said in a statement.
Waterman served at Lyons Township High School principal for the past seven years.
“As principal, I am proud of the progress we have made from an academic, extra-curricular, school climate and community engagement perspective,” Waterman added. “Working collaboratively with students, parents and faculty and staff, the leadership team at LT has implemented a variety of programs resulting in increased student achievement and an emphasis on equity and access for all students. As superintendent, I look forward to working with our staff, students, and community to further increase our progress.”
District 204 Board of Education President Tom Cushing said Waterman has proven himself as principal at Lyons Township High School.
“Dr. Waterman has proven success as an instructional and visionary leader, strong relationship-building skills, experience in building and sustaining effective teams, and a passion for making a positive difference in student outcomes,” Cushing said in a statement. “His hard work as principal and student-centered focus will provide a strong foundation for his leadership and vision as LT’s next superintendent. His knowledge of LT and his existing relationships with students, staff and the community will all make for a smooth transition.”
The pool for this position was narrowed from nearly two dozen applicants to seven candidates interviewed, to three finalists. The selection process was very competitive, with high quality, impressive candidates, district officials said.
“LT is thrilled with our selection. Dr. Waterman fits the superintendent profile developed with input from our constituents to a tee. He is the consummate professional, approachable and fair. We look forward to welcoming him to this new position,” Cushing added.
Waterman began his career in education in1999 as a business education teacher at Westmont High School. In 2003, he served as an assistant principal at Westmont High School for two years and then three years at Glenbard North High School. He was the principal at Hinsdale South High School for six years before taking on that role at Lyons Township High School.
He received a bachelor of science in business and master of business administration from Eastern Illinois University, a master of arts in educational leadership from North Central College and a doctoral degree in leadership and administration from Aurora University.
Waterman signed a four-year contract with a salary of $240,000.
