Carnival to spin Itasca’s Oktoberfest revels into high gear

September means it’s time for the return of the 14th annual Itasca Oktoberfest, unfolding Sept. 9 to 11 at Washington Park. A separate family day is planned Sept. 12 at the park.

Organizers describe the Oktoberfest lineup as a great family event with free admission and parking. And new this year are carnival rides.

The Fantasy Amusements Carnival will be in full swing daily, with special discounts offered, according to the village website.

Live German music

In addition to carnival fun, listen to some live German music with favorite bands.

• Thursday, Sept. 9 - Bratwurst Brothers

• Friday, Sept. 10 - After Mayor Jeff Pruyn taps the first keg, the Alpine Thunder will entertain

• Saturday, Sept. 11 - Euro Express, followed by Johnny Wagner Band

German food will be provided by Catering With Elegance. Dishes will include pork with red cabbage, spaetzle, bratwurst, sauerkraut and pretzels.

German hats will be sold for $3, two for $5. All proceeds will go to the Itasca Walk-In Ministry and Itasca Food Pantry.

Family day

Join the village and the Lions Club for a Family Fun Day event from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at Washington Park.

“We will have free hot dogs, hamburgers and kids activities, as well as discounted carnival rides,” the website stated.

Also, stop by the park between 2 and 4 p.m. for a special Coffee with the Mayor event. This is an opportunity to ask Mayor Pruyn a question, learn about upcoming projects, and share your thoughts and ideas with him.

Washington Park is at 350 E. Irving Park Road in Itasca. To check out the full lineup, visit www.itasca.com/Calendar.aspx?EID=3408 or www.itasca.com.
