Shooting death being investigated in Streator

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office was investigating what authorities are calling a “firearm related death investigation” Friday in South Streator.

Sheriff Tony Childress confirmed a shooting occurred in the 1400 block of South Park Street in Streator on Friday afternoon.

Childress didn’t say if more than one person was shot.

The shooting happened about 2 p.m. Police remained at the scene into the evening, and Childress said there was no immediate threat to the public.

Police are speaking with persons of interest, Childress said.

Neighbors told The Times they did not hear any gunshots, noting the neighborhood is generally quiet.

Traffic was being rerouted on Route 23 through South Streator away from Park Street.

Childress said more information would be released later.
