Detour set Wednesday for Park Street in Streator

Water main will be repaired at Park, Lundy intersection

Water main repairs will begin Wednesday at the intersection of Park and Lundy streets in Streator.

Traffic on Route 23 northbound through Streator will have a detour starting Wednesday beginning at 12th Street.

Water main repairs are expected to begin 9 a.m. Wednesday at the corner of Lundy and Park streets, closing the intersection.

Both lanes of Park Street (Route 23) and Lundy Street are expected to be closed for about six hours.

The detour will direct traffic east on 12th Street, north on Otter Creek Road, then west on Main Street, back to Park Street (Route 23 northbound).

City Engineer Jeremy Palm said Tuesday the city received the approval from the Illinois Department of Transportation for the detour.

The intersection at Park and Lundy streets has been open with a traffic barricade redirecting vehicles around the construction area.

“We appreciate the community’s cooperation as we complete this critical work,” said Holly Wheeler, operations superintendent at Illinois American Water. “Our team will work as quickly and as safely as possible to make repairs and reopen the roadway.”

Water customers affected by this work have been notified. Should something unexpected occur, Illinois American Water will reach out to customers with critical information.
