Oglesby Police receive several burglary reports from Saturday night

Department asks residents to stay vigilant and keep belongings secure

The Oglesby Police Department said Sunday afternoon that officers have received several calls regarding burglary attempts to cars and vehicles Saturday night.

The reported areas of the burglary attempts have occurred between West First and Second streets as well as East First and Second streets.

Reports have ranged from stolen wallet to suspicious footprints in the fresh snow surrounding individual houses and vehicles.

A resident of Oglesby said he noticed footprints by the driver’s seat of his work vehicle while shoveling his garage.

He followed the footprints and recognized that they were not his and believes the suspect must have left after his motion-detecting light came on above his garage.

The resident then decided to report the suspicious activity.

Oglesby police have asked the public if anyone has any video surveillance from the area to reach out to them through the department’s Facebook page or by calling the nonemergency number at 815-883-8404.

The department will be conducting extra patrols of the area and want to remind residents to keep their homes, garages and cars locked at all times.

Police ask residents not to hesitate to call if they see anything suspicious.
