LaSalle-Peru High School Board approves stadium upgrades as well as new football, band uniforms

Stadium will be equipped with motion sensor lights and cameras to improve security

Howard Fellows Stadium at LaSalle-Peru High School will be getting security and lighting improvements.

The school board approved a proposal Wednesday from K-Com Technologies Inc. for security and lighting improvements at a cost of $56,845.

The plans include additional crowd, parking lot and field lighting as well as additional security measures in the parking lot, bleachers and various locations around the stadium.

The lights and cameras will be equipped with motion sensors to ensure they are used to the best of their ability while preserving power when not needed.

Superintendent Steven Wrobleski said these updates were part of the planned renovations to Howard Fellows Stadium, but the molotov cocktail incident that damaged the field in September sped up the process.

Aside from upgrades to the stadium football games, visitors also may notice changes in the looks of the players themselves.

The board approved buying 60 new football uniforms from BSN Sports for $18,040. This will include sets of home and away jerseys for the student-athletes.

The uniforms were voted upon by the students as they elected to move forward with a green colored design to stick closely to the traditional school colors.

These uniforms will have a life expectancy of seven to 10 years and will replace current uniforms that have been in use for almost the last decade.

To go along with the football uniforms, the school also will buy 100 new band uniforms for $73,779.

The components of the band uniforms initially were intended to be phased in across several years, but, thanks to additional revenue, the school wasn’t expecting it would be able to purchase them as a lump sum.
