The Hall boys golf team claimed the title at the Putnam County Scramble on Saturday at Edgewood Park Golf Club in McNabb.
The Red Devils shot a 13-under-par to edge Roanoke-Benson (12-under) in the 10-team field.
“There were no individual scores, but the MVP of the round goes to senior Rivers Jordan, who hit multiple drives over 300 yards and made a few clutch putts,” Hall coach Mason Kimberley said.
Fieldcrest placed third at 8-under, while Putnam County and Henry-Senachwine tied for fourth at 6-under.
BOYS SOCCER
At Oregon
Mendota won three matches Saturday to claim the championship at the Oregon Tournament.
The Trojans defeated Schaumburg Christian, 7-0, and Riverdale, 7-0, before defeating Woodstock, 2-0, in the championship.
Yahir Diaz scored five goals and three assists on the day, Jasiel Watson had a hat trick against Schaumburg Christian and Josue Arteaga notched three goals against Riverdale.
The Trojans are 7-0 and have recorded six shutouts.
At Earlville
Earlville finished second in its own War on 34 Tournament on Saturday.
The Red Raiders beat La Salle-Peru 3-0 in the semifinals with Diego Vazquez scoring all three goals.
Earlville lost 2-0 to Geneseo in the championship game that was cut short due to heat.
The Cavaliers defeated Rochelle, 4-3, in the third-place game.
VOLLEYBALL
At Spring Valley
Allie Wiesenhofer had 29 kills, 22 digs and nine aces Saturday as Fieldcrest opened the season by winning Hall’s Early Bird Invitational.
In pool play, the Knights beat Hall (25-2, 25-12), Galva (25-14, 25-5) and Plano (25-9, 25-8).
Fieldcrest defeated Seneca, 25-16, 25-14, in the semifinals before topping Sherrard, 25-19, 25-13, for the championship.
Carolyn Megow had 24 digs and 10 aces, Ashlyn May contributed 23 digs and 22 kills and Kristyn Swartz added 42 assists.
Hall lost to Fieldcrest, Plano (25-15, 22-25, 15-12), St. Bede (25-17, 25-13) and beat Galva (25-19, 27-25).
Katelyn Pullam had 59 digs for the Red Devils, while Mia Mautino added 19 assists and five aces.
At Springfield
La Salle-Peru went 2-2 Saturday at the Springfield Lutheran tournament, beating Metro-East (25-16, 25-17) and Riverton (25-23, 25-21) and losing to Triad (25-23, 25-19) and Porta (19-25, 25-16, 25-23).
Taylor Martyn led the Cavaliers (2-3) with 43 points, 35 digs and two aces, while Avery Urbanski had 37 points, 30 assists, 17 digs, 15 kills and a pair of aces.
At Somonauk
Putnam County went 2-1-1 at the Somonauk tournament on Saturday, defeating Somonauk (25-19, 25-14), Leland (25-14, 25-11), tying Hinckley-Big Rock (25-13, 27-29) and losing to Yorkville Christian (25-8, 25-21).
Tori Balma had 46 assists, nine digs, eight kills, seven points, an ace and a block for the Panthers (2-4-1). Jaidin Trone contributed 24 points, nine aces, 24 digs and three kills.
MEN’S SOCCER
IVCC 7, Black Hawk 1
Pumi Maphumulo scored three goals and passed out two assists Sunday to lead the Eagles to an Arrowhead Conference victory in La Salle.
Bayron Cruz had a goal and an assist, while Bryan Fuentes and Andre Mendes each scored a goal.
Anthony Hernandez made four saves for IVCC (3-0).
GIRLS TENNIS
At Sycamore
La Salle-Peru’s No. 3 doubles team of Emmie Hachenberger and Izzy Pohar won its bracket at the Sycamore Doubles Tournament on Saturday to help the Cavaliers place second behind the host Spartans.
L-P’s other five entries – Ava Lannen and Catherine Engels at No. 1, Carlie Miller and Brooke Schiffbauer at No. 2, Avery Brovelli and Emma Hocking at No. 4, Jenisis Greening and Angel Smudzinski at No. 5 and Briana Keith and Ella Kampke at No. 6 — all placed second.
At Sterling
Mendota placed third at the Newman Invitational on Saturday, led by a second-place finish at No. 2 doubles by Lizzie Bresley and Zoe Finley.
Mendota’s Alex Stremlau took third at No. 1 singles, while teammate Alexis Finley took fourth at No. 2 singles.
Princeton’s No. 1 doubles team of Olivia Alter and Maggie Davis placed second, while teammate Emilee Merkel was fifth at No. 2 singles.
St. Bede’s top finisher was Paige Kraml, who took fourth at No. 1 singles. Teammates Morgan Nawa and Madison McGunnigal placed fifth at No. 1 doubles.
GIRLS GOLF
At Princeton
La Salle-Peru’s Grace Antle and Avah Moriarty combined to shoot a 95 on Saturday at Princeton’s Lady Tiger Ryder Cup at Wyaton Hills Golf Course.
The Cavaliers placed fifth with a 202. Ottawa won with a 174.
Sasha Bruins and Allie Thome carded a 107 for L-P.
Princeton’s lone duo of Ashten Wilson and Emma Kruse-Carter shot a 99, while Bureau Valley’s only pair of Callie Schoff and Cassidy Peterson carded a 106.
