Mendota graduate Jaci Bice has been selected for the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Bice scored 2,111 points for the Trojans from 1995-99, leading Mendota to three regional championships and back-to-back state tournament berths as a junior and senior, including a fourth-place finish in 1998-99.
L-P football players earn all-conference
Five members of the La Salle-Peru football team were named to the All-Kishwaukee River/Interstate Eight White Division Team.
Linebacker Chris Swayne, running back/defensive back Tre’von Hunter, lineman Aidan VanDuzer, defensive end Will Daugherty and running back Matt Carrico were honored.
Morris quarterback Zach Romak was named offensive MVP, while Morris linebacker Jorde Loza was voted defensive MVP.
Princeton volleyball announces postseason awards
Senior libero Abby Peterson was named the Princeton volleyball team’s MVP at the team’s banquet Sunday.
Senior setter Katie Bates earned the Leadership Award, senior hitter Jenna Loftus claimed the Sportsmanship Award, senior defensive specialist Taylor Wetsel took home the Hustle/Attitude Award and Isa Ibarra and Anastasia Mallery Sondgeroth shared the Most Improved Award.
Bates, Ibarra, Loftus, Sondgeroth, Peterson, Wetsel, Libby Boyles, Madison Doran, Maya Gartin, Olivia Gartin, McKenzie Hecht, Lily Keutzer and Madison Richards earned all-academic honors.
IVCC announces postseason awards
IVCC sophomore soccer player Pumi Maphumulo collected numerous awards after leading the NJCAA in scoring with 32 goals and 15 assists this fall.
The South Africa native was voted First-Team NJCAA Division III All-American, Region IVC Player of the Year, All-Region IV First Team and All-Arrowhead Conference First Team.
Freshmen Marc Philavanh and Andre Mendes joined Maphumulo on the All-Region First Team, while Zusipheyena Gxarisa, Bayron Cruz and Drew Garrett were voted All-Region Second Team, and Carlos Sousa and Emilson Castro were named All-Region honorable mention.
Philavanh also was voted All-Arrowhead Conference Second Team.
For the IVCC women’s soccer team, La Salle-Peru graduate Nyah Nowakowski was named All-Region IV Second Team.
Hole-in-one recorded at Spring Creek
Mark Dagraedt, of Cherry, made a hole-in-one at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Valley on Dec. 2.
He aced the 155-yard ninth hole using a 3 hybrid.
Ben Dagraedt and Jeff Chiaventone witnessed the shot.
