Hey Sweetie, a candy and ice cream store in downtown Ottawa will soon close its doors.

OSF HealthCare will move its inpatient obstetrics and intensive care services from Ottawa to Peru by Dec. 3, 2025 - a faster timeline than many in the community expected.

Despite drawing a large public turnout, OSF HealthCare’s consolidation plan cleared its final hurdle on Tuesday night - a decision that local officials said left them disappointed and worried about the future of care in Ottawa and surrounding towns.

The IDPH state board voted to approve OSF’s consolidation plan on Tuesday night in Bolingbrook, despite a strong effort from communities on the east side of La Salle County.

The Barn at Deer Park recently opened for year-round events in Ottawa.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board will meet Tuesday, Nov. 18, to vote on OSF HealthCare’s consolidation plan and whether or not St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa can keep its obstetrics and intensive care units open.
