Peru’s newest coffee shop is open — well, at least its drive-thru is.

Jeremiah Joe Coffee held a soft opening Tuesday, Dec. 28, where customers were welcomed into the building’s newly-constructed drive-thru to get their fix of coffee.

The Ottawa-based coffee shop announced earlier this year its plans to open a location at 1501 38th St., Suite B, in Peru, in the same building as Jimmy John’s. The building previously was a Dairy Queen.

Owner DeWayne Cronkright had a goal to welcome in customers before the beginning of 2022, one he accomplished with Tuesday’s opening.

Cronkright said he was pleased to open in Peru and was quickly encouraged by the amount of support the business received in the first hours, even during the first measurable snowfall of the winter season.

“It’s been very exciting,” Cronkright said. “We finally opened up and we picked the right day because it’s the first day that it’s snowed this year. It’s really exciting and we’ve had a lot of cars in the drive thru.”

Jeremiah Joe Coffee announced drive-thru hours will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

Cronkright said while he doesn’t have a set date to open the location’s dining room at this time, he hopes to welcome customers inside sometime in January, but for now they will be able to grab coffee or lattes, among other drinks, from the drive-thru.

Jeremiah Joe has two locations in Ottawa: one at 807 La Salle St. and one with a drive-thru at 101 E. Canal Ave.
