The La Salle Public Library will virtually host Beth Ketter, city of La Salle administrative assistant and Brent Bader, city of La Salle Director of Community Development, for a behind-the-scenes presentation of the area’s largest holiday display, the city of La Salle’s “Celebration of Lights,” 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9.

This virtual program will give viewers an inside peek into the creation of the area’s holiday lights display. Ketter and Bader will provide details about planning, creating and displaying the lights and the coordination of city staffers. From a handful of displays to today’s hundreds of custom creations, viewers will learn about the growth of the celebration’s size, as well as the impact it has on the many visitors that make the display a holiday tradition.

Ketter has been involved with the event from its inception and has been dubbed by many as “Suzy Snowflake” because of her dedication and passion for improving upon and helping to perfect the awe-inducing display. She will provide much of the history of the event and detail the work that goes into bringing the magic to life every year.

Bader is entering his second year of assisting with the display and helps manage the hundreds of volunteers that greet visitors. Bader will discuss the enthusiasm many of the volunteers have as well as the importance the display has had for many families last year during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This program is free and open to all. It will be presented virtually through Zoom. To attend this program, register by going to: https://bit.ly/3jhfOhm. For more information, contact the La Salle Public Library at 815-223-2341 or email Rachael Blomquist at rblomquist@lasalle.lib.il.us.
