Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra seeks young performers for Jan. 8 competition

Application deadline is Dec. 1

Delle Vercimak, business manager for Illinois Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra, practices on the 1928 Aeolian Duo-Art Organ in La Salle-Peru Township High School’s Matthiessen Auditorium. Vercimak will accompany the youth symphony on the vintage organ during a concert Sunday.

The Illinois Valley Symphony Orchestra will host the Young Performers Concerto Competition 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8.

The competition is open to sixth through 12th grade students who live or study in the Illinois Valley Community College district or as far east as Morris on Interstate 80.

Winners will have the opportunity to solo with the orchestra on the March 13 series concert in La Salle-Peru High School’s Matthiessen Memorial Auditorium.

Students who are runners-up and receive honorable mention will be recognized in an IVSO honors recital Feb. 4 at the Fine Arts Factory in the Westclox Building.
