Peru native sworn in as new officer

Lindemann previously interned for Peru department, before becoming a Galesburg officer

Peru Mayor Ken Kolowski (left) gives the oath to newly-hired officer Alec Lindemann to recite Monday, March 28, 2022, during the Peru City Council meeting.

Alec Lindemann was welcomed home Monday night by his new colleagues.

He was sworn in at Monday’s City Council meeting as a new officer of the Peru Police Department, scheduled to join the force Monday, April 4.

Lindemann is a Peru native. He graduated from Illinois Valley Community College, obtained a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement and a minor in psychology at Western Illinois University.

He was an intern for Peru and Galesburg police departments.

He worked as a Galesburg police officer from October 2020 to March of this year. While in Galesburg, he received two Blue Max awards — an internal award for outstanding work. One award was for the assistance in locating an armed subject and the other award was for using safe tactics in taking a subject into custody that wanted to harm officers and other subjects.

Lindemann will be moving back to the area with his 2-year-old husky.
