From 50s to freezing: Dramatic temperature drop expected in northern Illinois this week

Forecasts call for an extreme temperature drop on Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 11 and 12, featuring wind chills reaching the negatives.

On Monday, temperatures will remain in the lower 50s, with clear skies in northern Illinois. However, on Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures are expected to drop drastically, according to the National Weather Service.

The National Weather Service forecasts daytime temperatures between 25 and 29 degrees on Wednesday, and between 12 and 18 degrees on Thursday.

On Wednesday night, temperatures are expected to range from 0 to 10 degrees, with wind chills reaching -10 to -20 degrees.

On Thursday night, temperatures are predicted to be between 6 and 12 degrees, with wind chills reaching 0 to -10 degrees.

The weekly should stay mostly dry. There is a chance of snow showers on Wednesday afternoon, along with a chance of snow on Friday.
