Grundy County Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to stay sober over the holidays

Grundy County Sheriff's Office

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois Department of Transportation have partners for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High, get a DUI” enforcement campaign that runs through Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025.

“This season, let’s make safety our shared priority,” said Deputy Chief Paul Clampitt. “If you plan to drink or use impairing substances, plan for a sober ride home. Driving impaired isn’t just dangers. It’s unacceptable. We’ll be out in full force, and no excuses will be accepted.”

The Grundy County Sheriff’s office offers this advice to prevent impaired driving:

- Plan ahead: Designate a sober driver, use public transportation, or use a ride sharing service.

- Check local options: Some communities offer sober ride programs.

- Report dangers: Pull over safely and contact law enforcement if a driver on the road seems impaired.

- Be a hero: Stop a friend from driving impaired by taking their keys, helping them get home safely.

- Buckle up: Where a seatbelt.
