Alex Arroyo was selected Tuesday to fill the District 7 vacancy on the Kane County Board.
The county board approved his appointment.
He replaces Dr. Monica Silva, who resigned in December because she was elected coroner.
Several board members voted against it because, they said, board Chairman Corinne Pierog had not given them any information about Arroyo or the other three applicants before the vote. They stressed they had nothing against Arroyo.
Pierog was absent from Tuesday’s meeting because she was getting treatment at a hospital for a wrist sprain she suffered that morning.
Arroyo resigned Monday from the East Aurora District 131 school board, on which he has served for nearly 10 years.
Arroyo is also running to become an Aurora alderman in the April 1 election.
He has been a flight attendant for United Airlines for 31 years. He also worked on the staff of state Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia and has been involved with organizations, including local Democratic Party organizations, the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement and the Aurora Historical Society.
