Illinois State Police report vehicle theft arrests

The Illinois State Police continues to target vehicle theft and vehicle hijacking, and the agency reports recovering 245 stolen and/or hijacked vehicles from October through December.

The state police also during that same period made 24 stolen vehicle arrests and one arrest for hijacked vehicle, according to a news release from the ISP.

The state police ran 31 missions targeting stolen/hijacked vehicle recovery and related violent crime, according to the release.

The agency also conducted 31 air operations targeting stolen/hijacked vehicle recovery and related violent crime, according to the release.

The ISP is targeting vehicle theft, hijacking, and related violent crimes using grant funding from the Illinois Secretary of State Illinois Vehicle Hijacking and Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention and Insurance Verification Council, according to the release.

ISP was awarded a $10 million grant for the first fiscal year of the program, and another $677,000 grant announced in June 2024.
