Precipitation and icy conditions to hit several northern Illinois counties Wednesday

Icy precipitation is set to hit several northern Illinois counties Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025.

The National Weather Service predicts snow and a wintry mix of precipitation to hit the following counties on Wednesday: Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, La Salle, Lee, Ogle and Will.

From 6 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 5, a slight chance of snow will hit north of a line from Dixon to Valparaiso. Precipitation will gradually spread across northern Illinois from noon to 6 p.m., changing/mixing with freezing rain.

The highest precipitation rates will take place between 6 p.m. to midnight.

Snow/sleet in northern Illinois will likely mix with or change to freezing rain during these times. Precipitation may switch to plain rain south of Interstate 80.
