State Sens. Craig Wilcox and Donald DeWitte are collecting Valentine’s Day cards “to spread a little joy and hope to the area’s long-term care facility residents,” according to a news release from Wilcox’s office.
Churches, schools and community members in the 32nd and 33rd Senate districts to write Valentine’s Day cards that can be dropped off at or mailed to his district office. Once all the cards are collected, they’ll be delivered to the various long-term care facilities throughout the district.
The 32nd District includes the western and northern halves of McHenry County as well as part of western Lake County, and the 33rd District includes the south-central part of McHenry County and parts of Kane County.
“2020 was a difficult year for everyone, but especially those who reside in our nursing homes and assisted living centers,” the McHenry Republican said in the news release. “Health restrictions and precautions put in place nearly a year ago to protect and prevent the spread of the coronavirus unfortunately led to a lot of isolation for those living in these facilities.”
“This is a simple but heartfelt gesture that will extend our concern for our fellow citizens,” Wilcox continued. “We can always use a little more joy and hope in our lives.”
The collection of Valentine’s Day cards will run through Wednesday, Feb 10.
Wilcox’s district office is located at 5400 West Elm Street, Suite 103, McHenry, IL 60050, and DeWitte’s is located at 641 S. 8th St., West Dundee, IL 60118.
