5 injured in crash that shut down Route 47 intersection near Woodstock

Five people were taken to hospitals – including one woman who was flown – following a two-car crash near Woodstock Sunday afternoon.

The intersection of Route 47 and Charles Road north of Woodstock, as well as the stretch of Charles Road from Route 47 to Raffel Road, was shut down several hours. The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office announced about 7 p.m. Sunday that the street had reopened to all traffic,

The rollover crash happened about 2:35 p.m. just east of that intersection, and paramedics arrived within six minutes and began triaging five patients, including one who was ejected, Alex Vucha, communication specialist for the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, said in a news release.

Four of the injured people were taken to nearby hospitals by ambulance, while the woman who was ejected from one of the vehicles was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries, Vucha said.

The Hebron-Alden-Greenwood and Wonder Lake fire protection districts assisted, and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
