Semi hits power pole in Richmond, shuts down Route 12

Crews from ComEd worked Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, to repair a power pole and wires in downtown Richmond after a semitrailer clipped it earlier in the day.

A semitrailer pulling into a business on Main Street in Richmond snagged power lines and broke a power pole, shutting down the road for about 1½ hours Wednesday until the lines could be cleared, officials said.

ComEd crews still were working Wednesday afternoon to fix the pole. “Please use caution while ComEd is working,” said Scott Peterson, the fire marshal at the Richmond Township Fire Protection District.

The collision closed Main Street/Route 12 in Richmond between Route 173 and Golden Hawk Road on the north side of the village at 11:54 a.m. The road was reopened at 1:36 p.m., according to an alert from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.

According to ComEd’s online outage map, only five customers were without power while initial repairs were made.
