McHenry, Crystal Lake Central girls basketball advance to Northern Illinois Holiday Classic semifinals

Boys wrestling

Tom DuBois Classic: At Richmond, the host Rockets won the team championship with 235½ points, with Johnsburg third (145) and Prairie Ridge fourth (138) at the eight-team meet. Richmond-Burton had five individual champions and 11 placers overall.

Crystal Lake South (72) and Marengo (72) tied for ninth, Alden-Hebron (52½) was 14th and Woodstock North (42) was 15th.

R-B’s Lelan Nelson won the 106-pound championship with an 11-8 win over Stillman Valley’s Michael Pannarale in the final. Emmett Nelson won the 144 title, winning by technical fall over Crystal Lake South’s Aiden Marrello. Blake Livdahl won the 175 title, pinning Johnsburg’s Duke Mays in the final. Breckin Campbell took the 190 title, pinning Alden-Hebron’s Logan Crowell in the final. Colin Kraus took the heavyweight title, pinning Oregon’s Briggs Sellers in the final.

Prairie Ridge’s Jake Lowitzki won the 120 title with a 13-1 major decision over Oregon’s Isaiah Perez. Mikey Meade won the 126 title, beating North Boone’s Gavin Eckberg by a 14-0 major.

Crystal Lake South’s Nathan Randle won the 132 title with a 4-2 decision over Wheaton Academy’s Lincoln Hoger.

Johnsburg’s Landon Johnson took the title at 138, winning by technical fall over Lake Forest’s Tony Telos.

Girls wrestling

Westosha Central Stateline Scuffle: At Paddock Lake, Wisconsin, Dundee-Crown’s Diamond Rodriguez defeated Zion-Benton’s Jazmine Medina by fall to win the 107-pound championship.

The Chargers took eighth with 136 points, McHenry (121) was 10th, Crystal Lake Central (41) was 19th, Cary-Grove (15) and Prairie Ridge tied (15) tied for 23rd and Crystal Lake South (1½) was 26th. Warren won the 26-team title with 208 points.

McHenry’s Natalie Corona was runner-up at 145 pounds and teammate Madalynn Sima was second at 165. D-C’s Caroline Haiges was third at 235, C-G’s Denver Gier was fourth at 165, McHenry’s Alexa Colin Garcia took fifth at 114 pounds, D-C’s Ruby Gavina was fifth at 132 and McHenry’s Nala Hernandez was sixth at 235.

Girls basketball

Woodstock North 57, McHenry 38: At McHenry, Jadyn Grismer scored 16 points and Addie Udelhofen tallied 12 points on four 3s for the Thunder at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic. The game served as an exhibition, with both North and McHenry receiving first-round byes.

Gaby Grasser had 15 points to lead McHenry. Avery Stinger scored eight.

McHenry 35, Deerfield 32: At McHenry, Holly Waters scored a go-ahead basket with 34 seconds remaining to lead McHenry past Deerfield and into the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic semifinals.

Maritza Martinez led McHenry with 17 points and Lucy Jones added seven.

Marengo 37, Marian Central 36: At McHenry, Maggie Hanson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win a Northern Illinois Holiday Classic game against the Hurricanes. Hanson scored 11 points and Gabby Gieseke added seven for Marengo.

Adriana Wrzos had 13 to lead Marian. Juliette Huff added seven points.

Crystal Lake Central 47, Grayslake North 28: At McHenry, the Tigers won their opening game of the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Crystal Lake Central 48, Marengo 29: At McHenry, the Tigers beat the Indians to reach the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic semifinals. Central will face host McHenry at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Wauconda 52, Prairie Ridge 36: At McHenry, the Wolves lost to the Bulldogs at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Wauconda 58, Woodstock North 31: At McHenry, the Thunder dropped their game to the Bulldogs at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic. Wauconda advances to the semifinals against Larkin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Larkin 49, Crystal Lake South 46: At McHenry, the Gators lost to the Royals in their first-round matchup at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Marian Central 60, Grayslake North 40: At McHenry, the Hurricanes beat the Knights in their consolation game at the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic.

Johnsburg 39, Grant 37: At Johnsburg, the Skyhawks held on for a nonconference win over the Bulldogs. Skye Toussaint led all scorers with 17 points. Carlie Majercik had nine points and Ava Jablonski tossed in six.

Belvidere North 37, Woodstock 26: At Belvidere, the Blue Streaks dropped their nonconference matchup to the Blue Thunder.

Huntley 48, Hersey 19: At Huntley, Paula Strzelecki scored 18 points and Anna Campanelli had 10 to lead the Red Raiders (10-0) to a nonconference win.

Harvard 45, North Chicago 15: At Harvard, Mayra Hyde had 14 points to lead the Hornets to a nonconference win. Summer Jones had 12 points, Jackie Silva had 10 points and Gisselle Albarran added nine.

Crystal Lake South 53, St. Viator 48: At Crystal Lake, Carson Trivellini led the way with 18 points and three 3-pointers for the Gators in a nonconference win. AJ Demirov had 15 points, and Nick Stowasser and Tony Santarelli both had eight.

Cary-Grove 81, Marian Central 48: At Woodstock, twins Adam and Brady Bauer combined for 35 points in the Trojans' nonconference win over the Hurricanes. Adam Bauer scored a team-high 20 points and Brady Bauer chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds.

Richmond-Burton 85, Williams Bay 48: At Williams Bay, Wisconsin, Luke Robinson scored a game-high 22 points and Gavin Radmer added 20 with four 3s in the Rockets’ nonconference win. Ryan Wisniewski and Christian Irslinger both had 12 points. Ben Roberts had nine.

Woodstock 61, Indian Creek 54 (OT): At Woodstock, the Blue Streaks secured an overtime win against the Timberwolves in nonconference play. Max Beard led the way with 23 points, Collin Greenlee had 12 and Liam Laidig added nine.

McHenry 67, Hudson (Wisc.) 63: At Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Adam Anwar had 32 points and 11 rebounds to power the Warriors (8-0) to the nonconference win. Caleb Jett and Conner McLean each added nine for McHenry.

Plano 59, Woodstock North 46: At Woodstock, the Thunder lost to the Reapers in a Kishwaukee River Conference game.

Yorkville Christian 84, Johnsburg 64: At Johnsburg, the Skyhawks lost a nonconference game to the Foxes.

Boys swimming

Wild Stallion Jamboree: At Rolling Meadows, Jacobs co-op placed fifth in the 12-team meet with 228 points and Cary-Grove co-op (227) was right behind in sixth. Maine South won with 331 points.

Jacobs co-op’s Luke Johnson, Colin Phan, Gabe Niemi and Justin Bernstein placed first in the 400-yard medley relay (3:44.70). Bernstein, Johnson and Niemi were first in the 200 (50-100-50) backstroke relay (1:45.25).

Cary-Grove co-op’s Ignas Venslauskas, Kasaparas Venslauskas and Logan Kranig took first in the 200 (50-100-50) breaststroke relay (1:57.76). The Trojans’ 4x100 IM relay of Ignas Venslauskas, Victor Praczkowski, Nathan Scerbac and Kasaparas Venslauskas also took first in 3:49.17.

Also for C-G co-op, Oliver Swietek, Ignas Venslauskas, Scerbac and Henry Pracht were first in the frosh-soph 200 medley relay (1:46.09). Praczkowski won the 50 free (22.18), and Logan Kane, Praczkowski, Pracht and Kasparas Venslauskas won the 300 (50-100-50-100) free relay in 2:25.39.
