Students at Algonquin’s Jacobs High School were asked to shelter in place briefly on Monday following a retail theft at a nearby Walgreens, police said.

Anthony McGinn, communications chief at Algonquin-based Community School District 300, said the shelter in place request came from the Algonquin Police Department and was precautionary.

Lake in the Hills’ police public information officer Amanda Johnson said that about 1:35 p.m. Monday, a retail theft occurred at Walgreens at Randall and Algonquin roads. The two suspects in that theft fled towards the high school, but later were arrested.

The restriction at Jacobs lasted from about 2 to 2:15 p.m. and was based on police activity around the school, McGinn said.

“Please know there was no threat or incident inside Jacobs High School,” according to the email to parents.
