A man has been charged with punching police officers and grabbing and pushing Jewel-Osco employees at the Woodstock grocery store Friday morning, according to court documents.

Tavon A. Jones, 29, was charged with three counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, two counts of aggravated battery in a public place, resisting a police officer, criminal trespass to land and assault, according to a complaint filed in McHenry County court.

Prosecutors say Jones punched, grabbed and threw two officers to the floor Friday morning inside the Woodstock Jewel-Osco, located at 145 S. Eastwood Drive. While handcuffed, Jones spat in the face of another Woodstock officer, authorities allege. Jones also is accused of grabbing a Jewel employee “and reach[ing] into his pockets looking for his phones” while the employee was near the registers, according to the complaint. A Jewel loss prevention employee attempted to intervene when Jones pushed him and “threw a punch” at him, prosecutors said.

Jones, who has no permanent address and is listed as transient in court records, was already charged with trespassing the same Jewel on Dec. 7 after receiving a trespassing warning on Dec. 2, according to authorities. Jones “has repeatedly stated that he would continue to return to the property,” prosecutors wrote in the complaint.

Released on pretrial conditions, Jones is prohibited from entering all Jewel locations in McHenry County, according to court documents. Jones is due to appear in court next on Jan. 9.
