McHenry boys swimming cruises past Woodstock North co-op: Wednesday’s Northwest Herald sports roundup

McHenry 95, Woodstock North co-op 44: At McHenry, Jakob Axelson, Robbie Rosenbaum and Lincoln Soderholm each won two individual events to lead the Warriors to a win. Axelson took the 50-yard freestyle in 25.69 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 1:03, Rosenbaum took the 100 free (49.78) and the 100 breaststroke (1:04.68) and Soderholm took the 200 individual medley (2:34.47) and 100 backstroke (1:08.95).

Cole Benton won the 200 free (2:28.93) and Blake DeNovo won the 500 free (6:30.73). The 200 medley relay of Rosenbaum, Soderholm, Axelson and DeNovo won at 1:59.41 and the same group won the 400 free relay at 3:59.46.

Woodstock North co-op’s 200 free relay of Elijah Hedges, Geo Kopulos, Niko Myshkowec and Landon Beltran won at 1:58.53.

Boys basketball

Marian Central 70, Round Lake 26: At Woodstock, Finn Pivnicka led the Hurricanes (3-8) with 36 points to lead his team to a nonconference win.

Plano 62, Marengo 34: At Marengo, Michael Kirchhoff scored 16 points to lead the Indians (1-9, 0-3) in a Kishwaukee River Conference loss at home.

Sandwich 59, Harvard 23: At Sandwich, Adam Cooke knocked in seven points in Harvard’s Kishwaukee River Conference loss. Pablo Muralles added six points for the Hornets (1-5, 0-3) while Julian Aocsta had five.

Girls basketball

Cary-Grove 42, Burlington Central 32: At Burlington, Sam Skerl scored 13 points to lead the Trojans to a Fox Valley Conference win. Kennedy Manning added eight points for C-G (8-3, 4-1) while Avery Stortz had seven.

Audrey LaFleur led all scorers with 17 points for the Rockets (3-6, 2-3) and Julia Scheuer finished with six.

Crystal Lake South 38, Round Lake 30: At the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic at McHenry, Makena Cleary scored 16 points to lead the Gators to a win in their tournament finale. Laken LePage added 14 points for South (8-4).

Boys bowling

Huntley 3,541, Burlington Central 2,852: At Four Seasons in Sycamore, Matthew Fishman rolled a match-high 662 series to lead the Red Raiders to a win. Austin Tenglin finished with a 623, Nicholas Gaspari had a 573, Joe Humphrey added a 570 while Landen Conforti finished with a 558 and Noad Waters rolled a 555.

Ryan Becker led the Rockets with a 508, Nicholas Franco had a 498, Michael Clark rolled a 483, Aiden Spinrtu earned a 466, Kainen Hoshina finished with a 457 and Evan Smith had a 440.

Marengo 3,323, Woodstock co-op 3,262: At Glo-Bowl in Marengo, Hunter Pankow lead Marengo with a 626 series to help his team earn a win. Daschle Mardock rolled a 601, Robert Heuser had a 552, Ryan Heuser earned a 546, Lucas Frohling finished with a 526 and Gavin Barkman had a 472.

Woodstock co-op’s Max Haggerty led all bowlers with a 660 while Sonny Marsalla rolled a 594. Will Reese earned a 567, Devin Haggerty had a 516 and Noah Rodriguez rolled a 479.

Oregon 3,385, Harvard 2,732: At J’s Lanes in Harvard, Camryn Roesler rolled a 529 series and Collin Barnett had a 525 in the Hornets' loss. Winston Mendoza added a 445, Ruben Malbaes had a 431, Gael Deleon rolled a 420 and Ty Fischer finished with a 382.

Girls bowling

Round Lake 2,067, McHenry 2,034: At Round Lake, Emily Carpenter rolled a 673 series to lead the Warriors in a loss. Annabelle WeinReis had a 417, Emily Loresch finished with a 338, Averie Kuzelka rolled a 323 and Emma Ellison earned a 283.
