Nunda Masonic Lodge #169 has presented its Mason of the Year Award to Thomas McNulty.
The Crystal Lake-based lodge is celebrating its 169th year and is preparing for its 175th anniversary, which McNulty is documenting. A longtime freelance writer, McNulty is known for his biography about Errol Flynn, called “Errol Flynn: The Life and Career,” which took over 10 years of travel and research to complete.
“Nunda Lodge has a vibrant and fascinating history,” McNulty said in a news release, “and I’m honored by this recognition. Our members include numerous McHenry County pioneers, Civil War veterans, and outstanding business leaders. Working on the Nunda Lodge history is the most important thing I’ve ever done.”
Nunda Masonic Lodge was chartered by the Illinois Grand Lodge in 1855 which makes it one of the oldest organizations in Crystal Lake. The Masonic fraternity “is an organization for men of good character with the explicit purpose of bettering themselves and their community,” the news release said.
