A Crystal Lake woman has died after suffering serious injuries in a car crash that closed parts of Route 14 for more than three hours last week in Crystal Lake.
Andrea Papapietro, 68, of Crystal Lake, initially was assessed at the scene of the Dec. 23 crash and conscious when emergency medical services personnel arrived, according to a McHenry County Coroner’s Office news release issued Friday.
Papapietro subsequently went into cardiac arrest and was taken to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital, where she was pronounced dead the same day as the crash, according to the release.
The coroner’s office is working on the case for final determination of cause of death.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2015 Honda Civic was traveling west on Route 14 from Sands Road near Route 31 when, “for an undetermined reason,” the car entered the eastbound lane and struck a 2007 Jeep Commander, according to a Crystal Lake Police Department news release.
Crystal Lake police said one person was taken to a hospital with what police described as serious injuries.
Crystal Lake police and the fire rescue department had responded to the call at 3:26 p.m. Dec. 23. The crash resulted in the eastbound lanes of Route 14 being closed to traffic for more than three hours.
The coroner’s office said it is working with the Crystal Lake police and fire rescue departments as well as Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital.
