The Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation’s Social Justice Team has invited poets to participate in Poets in Resistance Again, a public reading from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at 5603 Bull Valley Road in McHenry.

The event is free to attend, but a $20 donation is suggested, with the proceeds to be split between Tree of Life social justice ministries and select social justice organizations.

In order to ensure the widest possible range of voices, poets are asked to submit a representative piece of their work. Ten to 12 poets will be selected, along with a couple of alternates in case late cancellations arise. Each set will be limited to 10 minutes and will be timed. Poets will be able to read from a podium, use a stand-up microphone, sit on a stool or walk the stage with a wireless mic. Space will be available to offer books, CDs or other materials for sale.

Sample poems and a short one- or two-sentence personal bio for the program book and introductions should be sent in Word format to pmurfin@sbcglobal.net along with a headshot photo in .jpg format.

For more information, call Patrick Murfin at 815-814-5645, visit the “Poets in Resistance” Facebook events page or search for the phrase on Facebook.
