The Cary Fire Protection District responded to a call at 2:25 p.m. Wednesday to Marryat Road in Trout Valley for a reported residential fire. Firefighters arrived to a “large two-story residence with significant fire showing from the north side” of the home, Cary Fire Protection District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said in a news release.

Additional firefighters were called in through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System along with water resources because of the lack of hydrants in the area. Water was shuttled to the scene and firefighters were able to control the fire within 25 minutes, according to Vucha. Crews cut holes into the roof to check if the fire spread while releasing heat from the attic.

“These operations were critical in containing the fire and preventing further spread,” Vucha said in the release.

No one was home at the time of the fire, which was reported by a passerby who noticed the flames, Vucha said. Two dogs were inside, but they escaped unharmed.

Firefighters stayed at the scene for an hour to ensure the fire did not spread and to conduct an investigation. No injuries were reported, Vucha said.
