McHenry wrestling holds off Prairie Ridge in 47-35 win: Thursday’s Northwest Herald sports roundup

Boys wrestling

McHenry 47, Prairie Ridge 35: At McHenry, the Warriors won six matches by fall to pick up an FVC win. Ryan Hanson (132 pounds), Myles Wagnes (150), Cooper Floden (157), Johan Lopez (190) and Brody Lidbury (215) each won by fall for McHenry, while Nolan McDanel (138) took his match by technical fall. Aiden Schuldr (165) won by forfeit.

The Wolves' Jake Lowitzki (120), Mikey Meade (126) and Walter Pollack (285) each took their match by fall. Aiden Rodriguez (175) came out on top by technical fall. Tymen Robinson (106) and Johnny Cabano (113) each won by forfeit.

Crystal Lake Central 45, Hampshire 18: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers picked up a commanding win at home. Tommy Tomasello (165) won by fall, Cayden Parks (190) took his match by technical fall, Jackson Marlett (113), Payton Ramsey (120), Daniel Snow (132) and Dominic Vitale (157) each won by major decision, while Dylan Ramsey (126), Abraham Palomino (138) and Tommy McNeil (215) won by forfeit.

Hampshire’s Aidan Rowells (175) won by technical fall, Daniel Lewes-Kwiatkowski (106) took his match in a major decision, while Santino Sauer (144), Chris Napiorkowski (150) and Knox Homola (285) each won their matches.

Crystal Lake South 41, Cary-Grove 40: At Crystal Lake, the Gators picked up their first FVC win of the season.

Jacobs 41, Dundee-Crown 34: At Carpentersville, the Golden Eagles picked up an FVC win on the road.

Huntley 63, Burlington Central 6: At Burlington, the Red Raiders stayed undefeated in FVC action with a dominating win on the road.

Boys basketball

Woodstock 57, Harvard 23: At Harvard, Max Beard scored 16 points to lead the Blue Streaks to a Kishwaukee River Conference win. JJ Stokes added 12 points. Joey Nitz added five for Woodstock (10-7, 3-1).

Adam Cooke was the Hornets' (2-9, 0-4) top scorer with seven points, while DeAndre Keller added six.

Sycamore 66, Marian Central 52: At Woodstock, Finn Pivnicka led the Hurricanes (5-11) with 23 points in a loss at home. Stef Stojich added 11.

Byron 72, Woodstock North 37: At Byron, the Thunder (1-10) couldn’t keep up in a road loss.

Hiawatha 57, Alden-Hebron 37: At Hebron, the Green Giants (0-11) failed to pick up their first win of the season.

Girls basketball

Genoa-Kingston 42, Marengo 39: At Genoa, Emilie Polizzi knocked in 12 points but Marengo couldn’t pick up a win on the road. Gabby Gieseke added nine points, while Macy Noe had eight for Marengo (8-6).

Winnebago 41, Johnsburg 27: At Johnsburg, the Skyhawks (9-7) dropped their nonconference game at home.

Boys swimming

Cary-Grove co-op 113, Huntley 56: At Cary, the Trojans won every event to sweep their dual against the Red Raiders. Kasparas Venslauskas won both the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 50.32 seconds and the 100 free in 49.10. Charlie Edwards took the 200 individual medley (2:14.76) and the 500 free (5:00.71).

Victor Praczkowski won the 50 free (22.74), Matthew Herron finished first in the 100 butterfly (57.41), Oliver Swietek won the 100 backstroke (1:00.26), and Ignas Venslauskas took the 100 breaststroke (1:03.34).

Kasparas Venslauskas, Ignas Venslauskas, Herron and Logan Kane combined to take the 200 medley relay (1:39.89), Kasparas Venslauskas, Kane, Herron and Praczkowski took the 200 free relay (1:32.07), and Praczkowski, Kane, Herron and Nathan Scerbac won the 400 free relay (3:33.10).

Boys bowling

Johnsburg 3,204, Plano 2,834: At Raymond’s Bowl in Johnsburg, Luke Bowers rolled a 627 series to help the Skyhawks earn a win. Matt Kurek finished with a 564, Konrad Zapal had a 552, and Liam Niederhofer added a 551. Blake Bowers earned a 482, and Caleb Schuette rolled a 428.

Girls bowling

Johnsburg 1,910, McHenry 1,811: At Raymond’s Bowl in Johnsburg, Julia Erickson led the Skyhawks with a 464 to help her team earn a win. Julia McCue finished right behind with a 428 for Johnsburg, Maddie Ten Bruin had a 384, and Scarlett Norton finished with 335.

Emily Carpenter rolled a match-high 507 for the Warriors. Annabelle Weinreis added a 467.

Woodstock 2,597, Plano 1,882: At Hometown Lanes in Plano, Torin Deacon finished with a 503 to lead the Blue Streaks to a win. Ava Caldwell rolled a 475, Cierra McNamara had a 427, Brianna McNamara added a 411, and Avery Carpenter rolled a 405.

Huntley 3,219, Jacobs co-op 2,370: At Bowlero in Algonquin, Erica DeBello rolled a 614 in the Red Raiders' win on the road. Katie Scaletta rolled a 589, Prianca Waters finished behind with a 556, Ashlyn Tenglin had a 516, Jana Bourdeau earned a 475, and Mackenzie Miller earned a 469.

Bianca Ramirez led the Golden Eagles with a 522. Dani Reyes added a 448.
