Eighteen acres of land were burned Friday afternoon in quick-moving brush fire near Huntley, according to a news release from the Huntley Fire Protection District.
The Huntley Fire Protection District was called out to a reported brush fire near Church Road and Ridge Lane near Huntley at 12:37 p.m. Friday.
The fire was reported along Church Road, between Ridge Lane and Henning Drive on the north side of the road.
“Driven by strong southerly winds, the medium-sized fire quickly expanded, spreading north through cattails and prairie land,” the release said.
Fire officials requested additional manpower, all-terrain vehicles and water supplies as the area lacks fire hydrants. Ultimately, the fire was upgraded to a third level for brush trucks only.
Fire crews from multiple agencies responded, and fire teams were deployed to surround the fire, focusing on the eastern and western flanks to contain the fire and prevent potential damage to homes, the district reported. The fire was brought under control and extinguished within 90 minutes.
Nobody was injured and no structures were affected, but the fire burned 18 acres of land. The Huntley Fire Protection District is investigating the cause of the blaze.
