Richmond-Burton wrestler Emmett Nelson sets school wins record

Boys bowling

Marengo Regional: At Glo-Bowl in Marengo, Woodstock co-op captured the regional championship with 6,184 pins as Levi Perrotta won the individual crown with a six-game series of 1,406.

Huntley (6,007) was runner-up, Belvidere (5,859) was third and Marengo (5,785) was fourth to advance to next weekend’s Oregon Sectional at Plum Hollow Family Center in Dixon.

Huntley’s Joey Humphrey (1,330) was the individual runner-up, Marengo’s Hunter Pankow (1,312) was fourth and Woodstock’s Max Haggerty (1,275) was fifth. Jacobs’ Brett Biondo (1,271) was sixth, McHenry’s Payton Spratt (1,240) was ninth, Dundee-Crown’s Dylan Bender (1,226) was 11th and Woodstock’s Noah Rodriguez (1,221) and Huntley’s Matthew Fishman (1,221) tied for 12th.

Advancing as individuals were Biondo, Spratt, Bender, Johnsburg’s Matt Kurek (1,216), McHenry’s Nathan Halsema (1,110) and Johnsburg’s Liam Niederhofer (1,078).

Boys wrestling

Warrior Duals: At Muskego, Wisconsin, Emmett Nelson became the Rockets’ all-time wins leader and now has 168 in his career.

Richmond-Burton finished second out of 16 teams, going 4-1 with wins over Stoughton 59-18, Mukwonago 58-23, Slinger 40-29 and Muskego 45-36. The Rockets lost to Germantown 44-27.

Geneseo Invite: At Geneseo, Huntley (228.5 points) finished runner-up to host Geneseo (241) at the 20-team meet. Taking first the Raiders were Cameron Abordo (120 pounds) and Radic Dvorak (157).

Colin Abordo (113), Dylan Cerny (190) and Wyatt Theobald (215) placed second. Gavin Nischke (138) was fourth, and Cael Saldana (106) and Vlad Maluhin (144) were fifth

Batavia Invite: At Batavia, McHenry was ninth in the 17-team meet, and Jacobs was 16th. The Warriors’ Ryan Hanson was third at 132, Ryan Johnston was fourth at 144, Aiden Schuldt was fourth at 165 and Brody Lidbury was sixth at 215.

Jacobs’ Anthony Martinez was sixth at 113 and Enrique Garcia was sixth at 120.

Illini Classic: At New Lenox, Marian Central finished eighth out of 24 teams, led by a first-place finish from Jimmy Mastny at 190 pounds. Mastny defeated Marist’s Ricky Ericksen by injury forfeit.

The Hurricanes’ Brayden Teunissen was runner-up at 120, Vance Williams was third at 150, Nick Marchese was fourth at 126 and Dan French was fifth at 215.

Crystal Lake Central Quad: At Crystal Lake, the Tigers went 3-0 with wins over New Trier (50-19), Elk Grove (71-0) and Grayslake North (58-15).

Girls bowling

Jacobs co-op Invite: At Liberty Lanes in Carpentersville, Huntley won the 20-team tournament with 5,523 pins. Jacobs co-op was eighth, Dundee-Crown was 12th, Burlington Central was 14th, Harvard was 16th and Johnsburg was 17th.

Erica DeBello finished third for the Red Raiders with a six-game series of 1,216. Also for Huntley, Ashlyn Tenglin was ninth, Mackenzie Miller was 13th, Katie Scaletta was 14th and Pria Waters was 20th.

Jacobs’ Lizzie Lorenz was 10th.

Girls basketball

Huntley 50, Lincoln-Way East 42: At DeKalb’s MLK Tournament, Paula Strzelecki had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds as the Red Raiders won their 20th game. Anna Campanelli had 10 points, four rebounds and four steals.

Huntley 61, DeKalb 33: At DeKalb, the Raiders (21-0) continued their perfect season with a win over the host Barbs. Strzelecki had 13 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, Campanelli had 13 points and five assists and Ava McFadden scored 12 points.

DeKalb 56, Dundee-Crown 39: At DeKalb, the Chargers fell to the Barbs in DeKalb’s MLK Tournament. Olivia Rodriguez had seven points, eight rebounds and three blocks for D-C. Charlotte Stewart chipped in eight points.

United Township 37, Dundee-Crown 29: At DeKalb, the Chargers dropped their second game of the day. Reese Westland had six points and 11 rebounds for D-C.

Geneseo 54, Marengo 33: At the Geneseo-Freeport Manny’s Roundball Classic in Freeport, Gabby Gieseke had 11 points and three 3s for the Indians in a loss to the Maple Leafs.

Dixon 66, Marengo 23: At Freeport, the Indians (11-8) fell to the Duchesses. Maggie Hanson had six points on two 3s.

Johnsburg 46, Wheeling 20: At the Round Lake MLK Tournament, Summer Toussaint had 10 points for the Skyhawks in a tournament-opening win over the Wildcats. Carlie Majercik had nine points. Skye Toussaint and Casie Majercik added eight apiece.

Highland Park 45, Johnsburg 35: At Round Lake, Summer Toussaint had 15 points and Skye Toussaint tossed in seven in a loss to the Giants. Lauren McQuiston had six points.

Woodstock 35, Maine East 29: At the Round Lake, the Blue Streaks (9-10) won in a low-scoring contest.

Lakes 44, Woodstock North 27: At Woodstock, the Thunder (4-13) fell to the Eagles in a nonconference game.

Oswego 62, Burlington Central 37: At Burlington, the Rockets dropped a nonconference game to the Panthers.

Boys basketball

Marian Central 85, IMSA 82 (OT): At Aurora, Cayden Leonard scored nine points in overtime, including the game-winning basket, to lead the Hurricanes (7-13) past the Titans in nonconference action. Marian trailed by 14 half.

Stef Stojich led the Hurricanes with 19 points, followed by Logan Brandt (18), Finn Pivnicka (15) and Mark Jablonski.

Crystal Lake South 75, Freeport 63: At Freeport, AJ Demirov led the Gators with 18 points and six assists in a nonconference win over the Pretzels.

Carson Trivellini had 17 points and six rebounds, Tony Santarelli chipped in 16 points, seven rebounds and five steals and Nick Stowasser had 12 points and five rebounds.

McHenry 61, Belvidere North 47: At Belvidere, Caleb Jett poured in 25 points and sank five 3s as the Warriors improved to 16-2 with a nonconference win over the Blue Thunder. Conner McLean added 10 points.

Jacobs 62, Chicago Noble/Butler 60: At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles (13-5) picked up a nonconference win against the Lynx.

Rockford Christian 75, Johnsburg 62: At the Pecatonica MLK Tournament, the Skyhawks dropped their tournament opener to the Royal Lions.

Johnsburg 76, Hinckley-Big Rock 75: At Pecatonica, the Skyhawks (8-10) knocked off the Royals to go 1-1 on the day.

Girls wrestling

Oswego East Invite: At Oswego, Crystal Lake South’s Annalee Aarseth finished first at 110 pounds, defeating Edwardsville’s Genevieve Dykstra by fall.

Cary-Grove’s Denver Gier took third at 170, Harvard’s Alexa Herrera was fourth at 110, Nevaeh Ovalle was fifth at 105 and Jarithsie Mercado was fifth at 190.

Hoffman Estates Invite: At Hoffman Estates, Woodstock co-op was eighth out of 42 teams, Dundee-Crown was 10th and Burlington Central was 13th.

Woodstock co-op’s Brianna Crown was second at 155, Eva Hermansson was third at 110 and Danica LaTessa was fifth at 120.

Burlington Central’s Tori Macias was runner-up at 115, Ryann Miller was second at 170, Ruby Vences was fourth at 110 and Soraya Walikonis was fourth at 130.

Dundee-Crown’s Mackenzie Lessner was third at 155, Diamond Rodriguez was fourth at 105, Ruby Gavina was fourth at 135 and Daniella Ibanez was fifth at 145.

Boys swimming

Bartlett Invite: At Bartlett, Jacobs co-op placed fourth in the 10-team meet with 290 points. West Chicago (340) was first, Glenbard West (339) was second and Wheaton co-op (310) was third.

Jacobs co-op’s Luke Johnson won the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.64) and was second in the 100 backstroke (54.83). John Beasley was second in the 50 free (22.86). Colin Phan was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.01).

Johnson, Phan, Gabe Niemi and Justin Bernstein took second in the 200 medley relay (1:42.72).
