Johnsburg girls take 3rd at Round Lake MLK Tournament; Richmond-Burton cheerleading wins KRC championship

Johnsburg 95, Rochelle 93: At the Pecatonica MLK Tournament, the Skyhawks (9-10) erupted for a season-high 95 points and came back from a 20-point deficit to knock off the Hubs.

Jayce Schmitt led Johnsburg with 21 points, followed by Jarrel Albea (17), JT Schmitt (16), Josh Kaunas (16) and Ashton Stern (14).

Huntley 55, Naperville North 47: At Geneva’s MLK Day of Hoops, Christian Wilson scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed five rebounds in the Red Raiders’ (8-11) win against the Huskies.

Aidan Larson had 13 points and seven rebounds, while Zach Rysavy, Logan Darragh (six rebounds) and Casey Kaczmarski scored six points apiece.

Prairie Ridge 50, Woodstock 42: At Geneva, the Wolves (6-14) defeated the Blue Streaks (12-9) in tournament action.

Collin Greenlee had 15 points to lead Woodstock, Max Beard had 12 and Joey Nitz added 10.

Hampshire 45, Belvidere North 41: At Geneva’s MLK Day of Hoops, the Whip-Purs (6-14) beat the Blue Thunder.

South Beloit 63, Marengo 44: At the South Beloit MLK Tournament, the Indians fell to the Sobos in their first game of the day.

Michael Kirchoff led the way with 15 points. Derek Bibbings chipped in nine points and Sam Vandello had eight.

Marengo 69, Durand 38: At South Beloit, Derek Bibbings had a game-high 24 points as the Indians (3-17) beat the Bulldogs in the seventh-place game.

Myles Aukes had 17 points and Hunter Vazzano added 14.

Burlington Central 62, Mundelein 43: At the Round Lake MLK Tournament, Jake Johnson was named to the all-tournament team as the Rockets (14-6) beat the Mustangs for third place.

Girls basketball

Johnsburg 39, Woodstock 38: At the Round Lake MLK Tournament, Skye Toussaint (13 points) tossed in the game-winning bucket for the Skyhawks (14-8) to beat the Blue Streaks in the third-place game. Summer Toussaint scored a team-high 14 points and Addison Sweetwood added seven.

Summer and Skye Toussaint were both named to the all-tournament team.

Johnsburg 51, Rockford Jefferson 31: At Round Lake, Summer Toussaint had 25 points to lead the Skyhawks past the J-Hawks in their first game of the day.

Skye Toussaint had 10 points and Ava Jablonski and Sweetwood had six apiece.

Marian Central 59, Rosary 43: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes (10-11) beat the Royals in nonconference action. Juliette Huff had 24 points and two 3-pointers, Adriana Wrzos had 18 points and two 3s, and Julia Dovidio added six points and five rebounds.

Lake Park 51, Hampshire 33: At the Batavia MLK Showdown, Jiselle Lopez had a team-10 points and two 3s for the Whip-Purs (9-11) in a loss to the Lancers.

Chloe Van Horn scored eight points and Mikala Amegasse had six.

Competitive Cheerleading

KRC Championship Meet: At Marengo, Richmond-Burton captured the conference championship with a score of 92.77. Johnsburg (90.13) took second, Marengo (85.65) was third, Sandwich (85.23) was fourth and Woodstock North (74.60) and Woodstock (74.60) tied for fifth.

Harvard (73.03) was seventh and Plano (69.70) was eighth.

Girls bowling

Hononegah MLK Invite: At Viking Lanes in South Beloit, Huntley finished third with 4,880 pins. Harlem was first with 5,394 and Hononegah (5,113) was second.

Erica DeBello rolled a 608 series and 241 high game, and Prianca Waters had a 518 series and a 217 high game for the Raiders. Katie Scaletta had a 510 series, Mackenzie Miller had a 505 and Ashlyn Tenglin had a 502.
