Fire crews fought flames and bitter cold when when they were called to the scene of a fire at 3 a.m. Tuesday in Johnsburg.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District found flames visible from the roof and attic of a two-story home in the 3700 block of Richmond Road, according to a fire district news release.
Residents had evacuated safely when the crews arrived within five minutes of the call. They deployed hose lines to the second floor for fire suppression while searching the house, because of the bitter cold, a mutual aid box alarm was requested, according to the release.
Crews brought the fire under control within 50 minutes without injury firefighters or residents. Its origin is under investigation and no damage estimate was available but officials said the house was deemed uninhabitable.
The fire protection district was assisted by Round Lake, Spring Grove, Wonder Lake, Fox Lake, Richmond, Libertyville, Cary, Wauconda, Antioch, Nunda, Woodstock, Lake Zurich and Grayslake fire departments either on scene or covering stations during the call. The American Red Cross assisted the residents.
