Haggerty, Jacobs’ Brett Biondo, Huntley’s team advance to IHSA Boys Bowling State Tournament

Oregon Sectional: At Plum Hollow Family Center in Dixon, Woodstock co-op’s Max Haggerty rolled a perfect game to start his sectional tournament and was one of two local bowlers, along with Huntley’s team, to advance to next weekend’s IHSA Boys Bowling State Tournament at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon.

Haggerty rolled a 1,358 series, while Jacobs’ Brett Biondo also qualified with a 1,353. Dixon’s Wyatt Miller beat Haggerty by three pins for the sectional crown.

Huntley took the fourth and final team qualifying spot with a total score of 6,075. Harlem took first with 6,264, Woodstock co-op (5,997) was seventh and Marengo (5,956) was eighth.

The Red Raiders top individuals were Joey Humphrey (1,307), Noah Waters (1,292), Austin Tenglin (1,264) and Landen Conforti (1,120).

Girls wrestling

Harvard Open: At Harvard, Woodstock co-op took first in the 20-team meet with 192 points. Huntley (179.5) took second, Harvard (88) took sixth, Hampshire (69) was eighth, Jacobs (60) was ninth, McHenry (29) was 11th and Marengo (26) was 15th.

Woodstock co-op’s Eva Hermansson placed first at 110 pounds, Hannah Olsen was first at 125, Ava Kok was first at 140 and Brianna Crown was first at 155. Brianna Kotovsky (145) took second and Kailey Wasberg (105) and Allison Hill (235) were third.

Huntley’s Aubrie Rohrbacher took first at 130 and Natalie Aguirre was first at 170. Sara Willis took second at 235, while Grecia Garcia (135), Nariah Adams (140) and Brianna Felde (190) were third.

Harvard’s Nevaeh Ovalle was second at 105 and Alexa Herrera (110) was third.

Hampshire’s Madison Minson finished first at 145. Amelia Nidelea-Polanin was runner-up at 120 and Samantha Diehl took second at 190.

Jacobs’ Julia Fenton won the 105 title Desiree Bowling (155) and Eliza Buivis (170) took second.

McHenry’s Nala Hernandez finished first at 235.

Boys wrestling

Chicagoland Christian Conference Tournament: At Woodstock, Marian Central earned the CCC title with 225.5 points. Wheaton Academy (188.5) took second.

Marian earned first-place finishes from Austin Hagevold (113), Brayden Teunissen (120), Nick Marchese (126), Andrew Alvarado (138), Vance Williams (150), Jimmy Mastny (190) and Dan French (215)

Diego Martinez (106), Connor Cassels (157) and Kaleb Eckman (285) took second.

Oak Park-River Forest Invite Freshman/Varsity Invite: At Oak Park, Huntley claimed the 21-team event title with 372 points. Oak Park-River Forest (344) was second. Crystal Lake Central (242.5) was fourth and Crystal Lake South (168) was sixth.

Huntley’s Colin Abordo (113) and Cameron Abordo (120) placed runner-up and Lucas Bittman (165) was third.

Central’s Jackson Marlett (113), Payton Ramsey (120), Dylan Ramsey (126) and Tyler Porter (175) finished third.

South’s Nathan Randle won the 132-pound championship

Freshman champs included Huntley’s Tristan Abordo (113), Nathan Werksman (120), Alexander Vega (165), South’s Gabriel Randle (175) and Central’s Jack Kassner (190).

Girls basketball

Harvard 32, IMSA 26: At Aurora, the Hornets (11-11) climbed to .500 with a nonconference win against the Titans. Ava Peceniak led Harvard with 10 points and Jackie Silva chipped in six.

Crystal Lake Central 44, Deerfield 33: At Deerfield, the Tigers (15-6) beat the Warriors in nonconference action for their eighth win a row.

Boys basketball

Johnsburg 81, Harvard 42: At Harvard, Jayce Schmitt and JT Schmitt both had 13 points in the Skyhawks’ (10-11, 4-2) Kishwaukee River Conference win over the Hornets. Ashton Stern tossed in 12 points and Jarrel Albea had 10.

Adam Cooke had 24 of Harvard’s 42 points.

Richmond-Burton 53, Plano 39: At Richmond, Gavin Radmer poured in a game-high 24 points and made six 3-pointers as the Rockets (14-6, 4-3) beat the Reapers in KRC play. Luke Robinson added 19 points and two 3s.

Woodstock 62, Woodstock North 45: At Woodstock, Max Beard led the host Blue Streaks (14-9, 6-2) with 25 points and 11 rebounds in a KRC win against the Thunder (2-14, 2-4). Collin Greenlee added 23 points.

Sandwich 59, Marengo 46: At Sandwich, Derek Bibbings had 15 points and three 3s for Marengo (4-19, 2-5) in a KRC loss. Myles Aukes added eight points and two 3s.

Prairie Ridge 53, Glenbard South 48: At Crystal Lake, the Wolves (7-16) beat the Raiders in nonconference action.

Palatine 67, Jacobs 31: At Palatine, the Golden Eagles (13-8) couldn’t keep up with the Pirates in a nonconference loss.

Boys swimming

Mary Landa Invite: At Woodstock, Huntley ran away with the eight-team title hosted by Woodstock North with 642 points. South Elgin (427) was second and Cary-Grove co-op (397) took third. Woodstock North co-op (359) was fourth and McHenry (192) was sixth.

Huntley’s Lincoln Yonamine, Szymon Osadnik, Owen Dassie and Nathan Ludtke won the 200-yard medley relay open (1:46.98); Dylan Elliot, Owen Dassie, Szymon Osadnik and Nathan Ludtke won the 200 free relay open (1:37.54); and Joshua Rohrig, Jack Peterson, Dassie and Elliot won the 400 free relay open (3:40.36).

Yonamine, Jayden Abbott, Joe Ginter and David Gatto won the 200 free freshman/sophomore relay (1:42.85); Gatto, Jacob Rutkowski, Ginter and Abbott won the 200-yard medley frosh/soph relay (1:59.63); and Anthony Koterwski, Gatto, Ethan Blozinski and Ginter won the 400 free frosh/soph relay.

Yonamine won the 50 free sophomore race (24.68), 100 free sophomore race (53.27) and 100 breaststroke open (1:08.27), while Ludtke won the 50 senior free (23.78) and 100 senior free (52.74).

Elliot won the 200 free open (2:01.23), Osadnik won the 200 IM open (2:17.44) and Dassie won the 100 butterfly open (59.86).

McHenry’s Robbie Rosenbaum won the 100 free freshman race (48.41), breaking Quinn Cynor’s record, and 100 backstroke freshman race (53.14).

Girls bowling

Jacobs co-op 2,476, Harvard 2,184: At Bowlero in Algonquin, Dani Reyes rolled a match-high 527 series and 212 game for the Golden Eagles in a win against the Hornets.

Harvard was led by Yorky Mercado’s 460 series.
