Letter: End Pace bus service, switch to subsidize cab rides

Letter to the Editor

I read that the County Board is “working to expand transit options” with more Pace bus service.

How many times have you seen Pace buses riding around empty or with one passenger? The fact is that Pace buses operate at about 5% of capacity.

In 2024, the average cost per rider was over $13 with a taxpayer subsidy of almost $11. Yet the average trip is only about 2½ miles.

If the county ended Pace bus service and switched to subsidized cab rides, the taxpayers would be millions of dollars ahead.
