Thunder football team set record for most wins in fall; Schulze led volleyball team to 4 regional titles, 30 wins in 2022

Woodstock North football coach Matt Polnow and girls volleyball coach Eric Schulze officially resigned from their positions, according to the Jan. 14 Woodstock School District 200 board meeting agenda.

Woodstock North boys/girls soccer coach John Sullivan and Woodstock North co-op golf coach Brent Filetti also resigned.

Polnow, who had a 11-18 record in three seasons at North, led the Thunder to a program-best eight wins in the fall and its first postseason victory since 2012 with a 34-24 home win against Freeport. North finished 8-3 and topped its previous high of seven wins in 2011 and 2012.

Schulze led the Thunder to four Class 3A regional titles in eight seasons and earned three straight Kishwaukee River Conference championships from 2020-2022. The Thunder won a program-record 30 matches in 2022. North went 22-15 and won a regional title, Schulze’s fourth, this past fall.
